1859

From 1859 to 1862, Colorado City experienced its birth, a spurt of sudden growth, and then an uncontrollable period of decline. Yet, even with the gloom of declining activity in 1861 and 1862, the town had shown promise of becoming "the largest and best city in the Pike's Peak region."
