Colorado City Day, August 12, 1914. The 480 working men, women and children
of Colorado City celebrated "Founder's Day" by taking the "Wildflower Excursion
Train" of the Midland Railroad into the mountains into 7 Mile Canyon.. Except,
unlike the fancy Colorado Springs Ladies and Gentlemen who took the "Flower
Excursion" in the spring, and had their picture taken at the same point, there
were no flowers left in the fall.
August 12th, 1859 was the day Colorado City was founded. Claim stakes driven by Melancathon Beach and Rufus Cable of the Colorado City Town Company.
Some grizzled old timers in this very rare photo could have come to Colorado City as wagon-train pioneers, only 55 years earlier.
