Ore came down from Cripple Creek on the Midland Railroad to the mill. Coal from the area of Rockrimmon, the Air Force Academy, and UCCS was hauled to the mill. 250 men worked in the mill, one of the largest in the U.S., using the cyanide process. By using zinc powder only 93% of the gold and silver was removed. There is still 557,000 ounces of gold and 2.7 million ounces of silver still in the 14 million tons of tailings.
The smoke stack from which $3 million in gold was scraped after the mill shut down, still stands.
