Manitou Springs

Iron Springs Hotel (upper center) was built in 1884 or 1885, but burned down later. This photograph is from a J. G. Hiestand cabinet card. He was the official photographer for the Manitou and Pikes Peak Railway. His studio was called the Ute Iron Springs Photo Gallery.
The State Business Directories list the Iron Springs Hotel in 1886 with W.E. Smiley as manager. (it's not in the 1884 directory) In the 1887 listing he is still there, but in 1888, 1890 and 1892, H. T. Blake is the proprietor.
By 1894 Weir and Rupp are the proprietors. In 1900, C. E. Owens was in charge, and in 1903 W. C. Frost is the secretary. In 1905 until the last listing in 1907, J. A. Ray was manager.
