The 'Colbrun' Building dates back to the 1890s when Colorado City became the transfer point for the tens of thousands of travellers to and from Cripple Creek by railroad.. It originally had no name, though it housed many businesses. In the 1980s, a small businessman, John Crandall, having started his 'Old Town Bike' shop in a rented space, expanded, serving the rise in interest in quality bicycles. He suceeded so well, including serving a visiting French Racing team he bought this building.

Finally, in the mid 90's he had to expand again, so sold the building, but not before honoring deceased Wes Colbrun whose non-profit Old Colorado City Development Company supported Crandall's growing business with three separate loans, the first, for $350 for his wooden sign which displayed an 1890's Unicycle image. He naming this building, the Colbrunn Building after Wes died. And Crandall wrote it into the deed so it would stay named that way.
