2413 West Colorado has an interesting genesis after 1976. The Simpich Family, who were art teachers for many years in Colorado Springs largest school district starting hand making exquisite Character art Dolls out of their home in 1952. The dolls were so well done, most reflective of the Charles Dickens and European dolls genre, that demand for them kept going up. They were prized enough that some people waited for years to get the dolls they wanted and others collected them one year at a time, expecially for Christmas. The entire family was involved.

As Old Colorado City opened up, after 1976, the opportunity for small enterprises to purchase buildings by owners of small businesses, the Simpiches decided to make the big move. They retired from teaching, purchased this building, and went into the very successful business full time. Since the facade of the building had no historical look or distinction, they chose to model it after Bavarian store front style, with no hint of Victorian. But it fit in.

Now with dozens of workers finishing and shipping the dolls, which cost upwards of $100 each, Simpich Character Dolls is a very successful Colorado City business.
